This course is limited to students returning from School Year Abroad or to those who have otherwise attained native fluency in the language. The syllabus for each term is selected in consultation with the class. In recent years topics have focused on cultural traits that have helped shape the French character through the reading of novels and essays by writers including Yourcenar, Makine and Pernoud. Readings are supplemented by films and articles from the francophone media as well as the performance of a short play, and the study of Cultura by Gilberte Furstenberg.
